PNW Library – Purdue University Libraries And School Of Information Studies (PULSIS)

The Purdue Libraries was renamed the Purdue University Libraries and School of Information Studies in December 2018 to better reflect the many teaching duties and undertaken instructional initiatives. The Purdue University Libraries and School of Information Studies (PULSIS) includes six subject-oriented libraries, the Virginia Kelly Karnes Archives, the Hicks Undergraduate Library, and Special Collections Research Center. The library system of the campus has a collection of 3,317,331 printed volumes and electronic books, 400,000 government documents, microforms, and around 227,814 electronic and print journals. To top it all off, it also houses more than 600,000 volumes in closed stacks that individuals can request for next-day delivery. It complements the online collection. Items held in the Big Ten Academic Alliance can be applied for directly and typically arrives within a few days. 

Even in the Digital Age, the physical library remains an important place for students. The faculty and staff in the Purdue University Press and the University Copyright Office report to the dean of libraries. The work of these units is integrated into the library’s operations. An open-access software platform called the Purdue e-Pubs digital repository provides complete access to full-text publications and rare unpublished scholarly content. It has registered around 19,870,198 downloads of the 66,794 items that it holds as of November 2019. 

The various initiatives taken by the PULSIS include leadership in redefining the role of libraries to meet the needs and expectations of its university. New space designs, international collaborations, with the help of innovative programs and projects in information literacy, the library have created a research community in the 21st century. The other initiatives include new publishing models, international collaborations, and data management.

Purdue University Libraries was honored with the Excellence in Libraries Award by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), in 2015. It was for the libraries’ various innovative initiatives. The ACRL said that Purdue excels because it supports faculty research through its Library Scholars Grant program. It provides faculty members with grants for travel to noteworthy collaborations at other institutions in support of their growth as scholars. 

Pnw Library – The Faculty

The staff and faculty of PULSIS support and facilitate and support the Purdue students to graduate with the ability to critique, evaluate, and integrate the best appropriate information to understand problems and devise solutions throughout their lives. The faculty often collaborate with other faculty on campus as principal investigators on research projects.
